Additional Proof that More Guns Means More Overall Deadly Violence

Intentional homicide rate by country shows that gun availability in the US makes all the difference.

  1. You tend to be drawn to those color shaded maps. You post a lot of them here. Why didn't you post the map of worldwide intentional homicide rate from this link instead of just pulling out three countries?

On a side note, what's up with Greenland? Did one person get murdered and that threw their rate up with Mexico, Brazil, Russia, etc.?

    1. A writer friend of mine used to live in Alaska. Her take on it is that the only thing to do is get drunk and fight. during the long winters.

    2. Doesn't speak well of your friend, that weather defines how violent she will get.

    3. TS, Comparing the US to the UK and Australia to make a point makes a lot more sense than comparing it to The Ivory Coast and Cameroon, don't you think?

    4. So in other words, socio-economics drives murder rates.

    5. Anonymous, she was talking about the way people behave, but leave it to you to twist what I said into an insult to someone.

    6. It's those great writing skills of yours. One cannot tell if you were talking about her, or not. To bad you don't have the skill to make sense when you write, or simply say you didn't mean what you wrote like the statements Steve quotes you as having written.

    7. Ah, see, the problem is that I write for intelligent audiences. You were never intended to understand.

    8. Right, you are so intelligent you cannot even respond to your own words promoting criminality. Your brains say it's intelligent to use lies to defend yourself and claim others are misquoting your very own words. Smart stance lying criminal coward.

  2. No, those are numbers. There are many causes that go into making them. You are obsessed with one answer to every question.

  3. Mike,

You'll never convince the gun loons with statistics. You will never convince the gun maniacs with stories.

Once nothing happened after the Sandy Hook Massacre, the lesson is the Gun Nuts have won. They and the Firearm Makers they serve can flood as many guns into the nation as they want, where "responsible" gun owner gets away with as many NDs as they want, where "responsible" gun owners can leave their weapons willy-nilly to be stolen and used by thugs to commit gun violence, where "responsible" gun owners can shot old men or young black girls just because they feel scared.

    1. Did you follow the link that Mike provided and look at the map? Surely Mike would have posted the map if the USA were a nice dark color, but instead we have to follow the link to see it.

    2. And a lot of those deep purple nations have strict gun control.

    3. Actually, I didn't even notice the map. I only consulted the lists. But, it's interesting that you accuse me of being tricky and purposely not including the map as if it works against my point. The truth is any comparison of US violence that includes third-world shit-hole countries is misleading. But that's what your side is all about, isn't it? In a straight up and honest comparison, like between first-world countries you lose every time.

    4. So can I just throw away data that I don't like too? You'll happily compare Louisiana to Massachusetts even though they don't share the same socio-economics.

Post the map, Mike. It provides perspective. It shows what really drives murder rate, and those same factors exist in pockets in the USA.

    5. Also, I'm wondering if you tell all the Russians you meet that their country is a third-world shit hole?

    6. It's not misleading. In fact, it leads one to exactly what the problem is.

    7. Mikeb, compare Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. Or compare Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Can we agree that those areas have a lot in common?

    8. Keep denying the obvious, TS. What's that called again, proof by strenuous insistence?

      Delete
    9. The map is very obvious. You certainly don't look at that map and think "guns".

    10. If you're a frequent reader and writer on this blog you do.

The odd thing is you're such a stickler for the unfairness of talking about gun violence as opposed to overall violence, yet you have no problem listing countries like the US, the UK and Australia with ALL the other countries. Doing this is as misleading as saying where there are a lot of guns there is a lot of gun violence.

    11. Yes, I am a stickler for looking at murder instead of “gun deaths”. I’m also a stickler for looking at all data points instead of selectively casting ones you don’t like away. That’s exactly what I am saying here.

      Delete
    12. Yeah, you're a stickler for everything that supports your pre-determined opinion. I know.

      Delete
    13. Which being inclusive instead of selective does. How am I the one who's biased when I am saying we should look at all the data on all murder regardless of the weapon?

      Delete
    14. You want to look at ALL the data. And that proves you're not biased?

If you weren't biased, you'd be able to admit that my brief post above is damning to your position. Comparing the US to perhaps the two most similar countries on the list (I wonder what Canada would come in at?) would suffice - if you weren't biased.

      Delete
    15. No, you have to look at all the data, Mikeb. You love cherry-picking.

  4. I'll tell the Russians their country is a 3rd rate shit hole.

    1. What do you call it, a paragon of advancement and enlightenment?

The point of the post is that in order to get a fair picture we must compare the US violence to that of other 1st world developed countries and eliminate such places as Honduras and El Salvador. But that doesn't work for the gun-rights fanatics, does ot?

      Delete
    2. Is gun availability not a factor in Honduras and El Salvador? Even the poor countries should show that “more guns equals more death” in your hypothesis. There is no need to discard the data.

      Delete
    3. Of course not especially since it brings into stark relief the abominable situation in the US compared to all similar countries of the world.
