Senator McCain on Syria - Schools Ignorant Fox Commentator

  1. There's a lot in that video, but on the headline point, McCain is correct. Whenever fundamentalists of one religion hear believers in another religion thanking God, the fundamentalists get offended. It's amusing to watch, so long as religion never gets government power.

    1. Nonsense. This is simple islamophobia. When Muslims hear people saying "Thank God," they do not react like that. But to our ears, what we heard in the video brings up images of 9/11 and Osama bin Laden.

    2. Mike, you and Greg essentially said the same thing. Call it what ever phobia you want but the language used does bring back bad memories of 9/11.

But language of all types can do that to any culture. I see this all the time when for example Spanish only speaking people are talking in a crowd of English speaking only crowd. They both get apprehensive about what is being said on both sides simply because one party doesn't understand the other even tho they are not talking to each other. The inability to understand the other language makes them think they are being talked about and probably in a bad way. It does create animosity between the differing peoples.

Its really no different than how the Japanese was viewed during and after the attack of Pearl Harbor and the war that followed.

Until everyone on the planet finally speaks one language, this will continue. Its part of human nature to distrust everyone of a single culture if someone in that culture have somehow wronged another culture.
