"Strict Safety Measures"

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. --  Police in Arkansas are investigating an accidental shooting at a Lions Club Gun Show in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Authorities say when Charles Pike picked-up a gun off the table, the weapon fired, hitting him in the hand. The bullet then ricocheted off the floor and grazed another man.
Organizers say gun shows follow strict safety measures for both visitors and vendors, and they're unsure how exactly the shooting happened.
Ever notice how when one of these frequent "accidents" occur, all these self-professed gun experts haven't a clue as to how or why the "accident" happened?  All of a sudden, it's an Act of God that transcends all human understanding.  Yet, if someone calls a clip a magazine or vice versa--you'll get 9 gazillion words from 4,892 gunloons explaining the history, technology, politics and metallurgy of gun magazines.  But when a gunloon shoots himself at a gunshow--it's just a mystery that cannot be explained.

Well, to be honest, it really isn't a mystery. Someone didn't take rule 1 seriously. At any place like this, the best way to start is ask permission to handle the firearm. Often, they will then clear the piece and hand it to you. If they don't, it is your responsibility to clear the weapon before you do anything else keeping muzzle awareness and by all means keeping your biscuit pickers off the trigger.

    1. So, both were at fault then?

    2. No Mike, in my opinion the person at fault is the one who pulled the trigger because he assumed the weapon was unloaded. I don't care if someone else told him or the actions were tie wrapped shut. All guns are loaded until you personally clear it.

    3. You're half right. That's more than I can say for the true fanatics like Greg who will never admit anything.

If you were a gun seller, is it even remotely possible that you'd display a gun that's loaded and not know it?

    4. Did you read my comment below? You want to rush to judgement without any investigation as to who is at fault. I want to identify the actual person or persons responsible and to administer a proportionate response--typically paying medical bills and compensatory damages.

  2. 1. When someone confuses a clip for a magazine, that's a matter of definition. In the case of an unintended shooting, there are factors involved that aren't always reported.

    2. Certainly, basic rules of gun safety were violated. By how many individuals and in what exact manner isn't given.

    3. What does that animation have to do with this story?

    1. Clip and magazine are interchangeable. You should consult the dictionary instead of pretending to be a word purist. It's embarrassing when you get it wrong.

    2. I'm not embarrassed at getting words right. If you refuse to accept the technical language of a particular subject, you have to expect that people involved in that subject will view you with disdain.
