Alttona PA Gun Shop Owner Shoots Himself

 Local news reports with video

A well known Altoona businessman was shot inside the gun store he owns on Friday morning.

An active investigation is underway into what Police say appears to be an accidental shooting.   Reports of the shooting inside the long established gun shop drew a big response.

It was shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday when Altoona police, were called here, to the Pioneer Gun Store  in the 600  block of North Second Street  in the Juniata section of the city.

Responding officers found the owner of business, Bob Bucannan had been seriously wounded when a gun he was repairing went off unexpectedly.  Because the gun shot hit the 82 year old Bucannan in the torso, responding officers said the business owner appeared to be seriously injured.   He was taken by ambulance to the Altoona Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Some people familiar with  Bucannan and his business were surprised to hear of what appears to be an accidental shooting because of his reputation for  knowing guns and how they should be handled.
I love the way gun lovers resist the concept of personal responsibility when one of their own is in the wrong.  The fact is pointing a loaded gun at yourself or someone else is gross negligence.

What's your opinion?

So, herbivore, your obligation now is to show which "gun lover" denies that the shooting was Bucanan's fault.

Hurry now--your betters (and there are a lot of us) are waiting.

    1. Well for starters, the folks interviewed in the video all said it was a terrible accident. You know, like he was the victim. And don't you yourself often chime in on that refrain?

    2. Saying that something is "a terrible accident" (and an unintended shooting that seriously wounds someone is certainly that) in no way absolves the person responsible for that accident, as any competent speaker of the English language would know.

And what is wrong with calling him the victim? The victim of his own negligence, but no less a victim.

Hell--I'm not blaming anyone but myself for the car accident that put me in the wheelchair, but I still see no contradiction in being described as the victim of that accident.

    3. Don't let this computer-trained redneck (no offense intended to coal-miners or their unions), who clings desperately to the backwards notion of individual liberty (the one who refers to itself as "Kurt '45superman' Hofmann") to push you around. I believe that most people who frequent your blog are sufficiently informed to see through such a simian mentality.

    4. Most people, E.N., or most sockpuppets? There's a difference.

  2. The person holding the gun is likely responsible. He'll have to pay his medical bills. That's the limit of his responsibility.

You're the one who wants to add all manner of additional punishments. We recognize that responsibility should be equal to the act, but not excessive beyond that.
