Mitt's Full o' Cash

Real freedom is not being poor and carrying a gun everywhere.

Real freedom is opportunity in a safer society that does not embrace the violence which characterizes our gun culture.

We have lost our position, our success at upward mobility, we are at record breaking levels in our history of economic disparity, compared to other countries, notably Europe.

The economic policies put in place by the Republican governor of Indiana while working in the Bush White House were disastrous, they are in large part why we are in the current economic crisis.  Those are the exact same disastrous policies advocated by the current crop of Republicans, doubling down on bad ideas that create that economic disparity.

And nobody points that out better than the Daily Show, which is factually consistently more accurate than the right wing media like Fox News, Rush Ludicrous, and the rest.

  1. "we are at record breaking levels in our history of economic disparity, compared to other countries, notably Europe."

Okay, except Europe is a continent, not a country.
I'm not sure how much more of a pathological partisan loon you could be to blame EVERYTHING on Republicans. A one-eyed potato can see these problems are caused by both parties.
As far as Mitt goes, he paid a low tax rate because of lobbyists buying off the politicians. How many Goldman Sachser are in the Obama administration? Who is the jobs czar? Oh, that's right, the guy from GE who made billions and paid ZERO TAXES.

And let's note that Mitt contributed $7 million to charity. An article yesterday showed that Obama gave less than 1% to charity and Biden gave $396.00

For someone who is supposed to be a fact machine, you obviously don't take off your partisan-colored glasses.

    1. The problems are caused by both parties, yes. But the worst deregulation efforts have consistently originated with republicans, like the repeal of Glass Steagal -- they repealed it, but I fault Clinton for signing the repeal.

But NOTHING by any democratic administration or congress was as bad as what happened under Bush and during the Republican majorities.

NOTHING. The relative scale is that both parties are at fault, but the Republican economic policies are worse than democratic ones, especially as it relates to economic inequality.

I don't see a lot of democratic candidates fighting the extremely popular notion of returning to the Clinton era - you remember, the last time we had a HEALTHY economy? that Clinton! - era tax rate for the wealthy.

The RATE of economic inequality has consistently been far slower, and economic growth far better, under democrats.

I refer you back to the Moyers video I posted, I refer you to this which provides a really effective assortment of graphs from a range of sources:

Look a little closer while we're at it. Romney wants to continue the policies

  2. I would also point out that Bubba Clinton made twice as much as Mitt, whose company actually produces something, whereas, Bubba produced nothing but hot air.

    1. Show your sources for the claim that Bill Clinton made twice as much as Mitt. And as to your claims the he produces nothing, his income is from books, speaking, both of which are productive activities, particularly if you place any value on intellectual property.

Romney's company produced nothing. They bought companies and leveraged them into huge amounts of debt that mostly ruined functional companies, took out every last dime they could suck from them, INCLUDING every government subsidy they could get - look at the steel company as an example, where taxpayers ponied up the money that kept that company going - and then sold off the remaining assets.

It wasn't 'vulture capitalism' as Perry called it. It was vampire capitalism.

Or do you believe that corporations are people, and the wealthy should pay less of a percentage of their income than the majority of people?

EVERY damn current Republican policy is about taking money out of the pockets of the middle class and below, and putting more of that money into the pockets of the rich, without producing anything of value, and without making this country better or more competitive. That is true of right wing energy policy, right wing tax policy, right wing efforts to deregulate......and right wing foreign policy.

  3. As usual, Jon Stewart is spot on. This has nothing to do with guns, though. Why not just discuss the economic concerns here and leave stretching to yoga class?

    1. Well, Greg, the gun connection is probably in response to your claims that the gun equals freedom.

    2. Nailed it Mike. It is not a stretch, as Greg claims. The right wing gets support from people acting against their own self interest by using the word freedom all over the place. It is the fact that they need to use that word to distract from eroding freedom that should be of concern, including their appeal to what is largely a single issue voting base on guns. While guns may not be the only thing that a segment of the base thinks about, it is a topic on which they place a disproportionate importance that is out of touch with reality. It allows the right to draw on support from a base which doesn't serve that base at all, but they spend so much time fascinated by their shiny guns they don't notice all the rest of the stuff they end up supporting.

If the right REALLY supported freedom as much as they give it lip service, they'd be a lot more upset about the treatment of the press covering the occupy movement, instead of trying to inaccurately demonize it, as we saw from RedAz. The right hates the mainstream media because they don't like the reality they get from it. If you want some more objective less partisan coverage or to fact check the media to see how accurate or inaccurate they are, take a look from time to time at the foreign press coverage of us. And most of all, hold the media accountable for accuracy.

If and when you do that, the right wing comes off far worse than the rest, in print, in broadcast and cable, in radio, and in the blogosphere.

  4. Dog Gone,

But you do consistently refuse to recognize that on many of these economic subjects, I agree with you. I'm hardly a single-issue voter, in case you're wondering. Yes, I see gun ownership and carry as one part of freedom, but it's only one part, and I support increasing freedom in many ways.

  5. You betcha, DG, Obama's economic policy of spending more money than all the presidents from G. Washington to G. Bush combined is brilliant. And how many people are unemployed? Who bailed out the 1%? As I said, you show your pure, pathological, partisan perversion.
